Proof.

Proof.

What needs to be seen for you to believe in the strength of your abilities? I have spoken about facts versus faith before; however, this is about proof. Proof is the evidence of your works: the evidence that you are being led to create or that you are meant to inspire. Also, it is the confirmation that you are more than meets the eye. The proof is in the fact that you are given another day on this earth. Sometimes, we think that we have expired. Yet the truth is your heart and abilities are just as fresh and new as the day you were born.

keepcalm54Just because something is going sour in your life does not mean “the product” is not good. You are the product and the proof is in your actions. You cannot stay in environments that compromise your health. People scream all the time about “don’t blame me, I am a product of my environment!” However, we all know that there are products of good and bad quality. So I ask this of you: why not be a good product of your environment? Instead of using your street credibility or your upbringing for bad, Continue reading

Food For Thought: Seat Fillers

Food for Thought: Seat Fillers.

Actions speak louder than words.  So even in silence and pain, hold your head up high. Let the tears fall but then wipe them away. I once read somewhere “if you have tears in your eyes, how can you see the stars”? review-logo

Vulnerability is a very sensitive and touchy subject to tap into nowadays. However, I want to open up this forum for us. Food for thought: Sometimes you have to look at where you came from and realize if this moment of turmoil and sadness matters in the whole span of it all? Does it matter? Do the people who hurt you matter? Does this one moment in your life matter? If yes, then you must recognize it as a building stone.

Think about seat fillers for award shows…stay with me here. They are placed in the theater to give the illusion of presence and fullness. Just like the purpose of a seat filler, there are people in our lives that are just there for “fluff”: their purpose is to cushion and comfort you in this particular moment or season. Yet, honestly you must be able to delineate their purpose. I am speaking on people rather than specific situations because as artists much of our creative progression and methods depends on the collaboration of others. By truly defining what the other is and their purpose can provide some peace in your life shifts.

No I am not saying to go and start eradicating people from your life but moreso be cognizant of others and their energy. Let this be a lesson: not all moments are meant to be a part of your lifespan. Some are just space fillers.

Do Not Judge Yourself by Your Cover.

Sounds simple, right? It is easy to reflect on the outside of ourselves: see all the wounds, years of stress and weight. Yet behind that beaten exterior is the soul of a person who KeepCalm53is pure and strong. We sometimes look outward because we are afraid to harness the strength and power that is within. Sometimes that power reveals a side of us that is fearless and mighty; sometimes our inner spirit contradicts the steely or even shy exterior that we have developed over the years.

You may have a look of a solider on the outside but deep down you are fragile and the beauty of that is: there is a balance. You should embody both. It is amazing how sometimes we feel that we need permission to do or feel certain things. Like society or perhaps your our perceptions place limitations on our skills and abilities. No one said you couldn’t do this or that but somehow you have managed to “cap” yourself. Why? Why do we do that? What is even more fascinating is when the universe pushes against the grain and shows you what you have been hiding from: your own potential. We are not limited to the constraints that the world holds us under: we are not just emotional creatures or selfish beings, we are human. We are capable of growth and discovery. Just because we get older does not mean we stop progressing.

As I do not encourage extraneous vanity, I honestly have my days that I just take a long look in the mirror. What is being seen of you in this world? What do you see of yourself? Most importantly, how do you feel about it? There is a saying: if you don’t like something about yourself, change it.

Try this: accept yourself and then adjust yourself, if necessary.

What People Are Saying…

What People Are Saying About Keep Calm and Create On!

To shed some lightness in the midst of the adversity and tension going on around us, I am very pleased to announce that Keep Calm and Create On is still buzzing strong and reaching more people than ever before! So thank you so much for your continued support! It means the world to me! As I have shared before, I started this blog because I was a low point in life in which, creatively, I was blocked.

I felt no matter what I did or said was ever enough. Like my voice as a woman, my voice as an artist, and my voice in general did not matter. However I believe we all have something to say and should be heard.  I wrote Keep Calm and Create On: Words of Encouragement from One Artist to the Next because I wanted to provide an alternative to the negativity surrounding me: all the industry rejections, fallen friendships, etc. As cheesy as it may sound, it was a like a light bulb went off. I was done being down and out; spiritually I turned to a higher purpose and power and began to rebuild myself. The passages in this book are like mini self-improvement activities to assist an individual in personal and artistic development.

Here is what one person had to say about Keep Calm and Create On:

It’s Refreshing, Teachingis thegreatest actof optimism.Encouraging, and Motivating! To me, the purpose of this book is to encourage you to push yourself out of your comfort zone and become who you were destined to be. We all need that push and I feel like this book helps push my artistic side and not as an artist but as an individual.”

This is not about advertising but inspiring a generation of people who needs to find the inner strength to push forward and create on! Purchase and gift your copy today!
