Do Not Judge Yourself by Your Cover.

Sounds simple, right? It is easy to reflect on the outside of ourselves: see all the wounds, years of stress and weight. Yet behind that beaten exterior is the soul of a person who KeepCalm53is pure and strong. We sometimes look outward because we are afraid to harness the strength and power that is within. Sometimes that power reveals a side of us that is fearless and mighty; sometimes our inner spirit contradicts the steely or even shy exterior that we have developed over the years.

You may have a look of a solider on the outside but deep down you are fragile and the beauty of that is: there is a balance. You should embody both. It is amazing how sometimes we feel that we need permission to do or feel certain things. Like society or perhaps your our perceptions place limitations on our skills and abilities. No one said you couldn’t do this or that but somehow you have managed to “cap” yourself. Why? Why do we do that? What is even more fascinating is when the universe pushes against the grain and shows you what you have been hiding from: your own potential. We are not limited to the constraints that the world holds us under: we are not just emotional creatures or selfish beings, we are human. We are capable of growth and discovery. Just because we get older does not mean we stop progressing.

As I do not encourage extraneous vanity, I honestly have my days that I just take a long look in the mirror. What is being seen of you in this world? What do you see of yourself? Most importantly, how do you feel about it? There is a saying: if you don’t like something about yourself, change it.

Try this: accept yourself and then adjust yourself, if necessary.

Why Create On?

Why Create On???

You must learn to take the talents that you have and create a movement with them. Embrace your CANs and not the CANNOTs. This idea came to me over the course of an emotionally down trotting year. A year full of confusion and doubt yet excitement and hope. As a KeepCalm33performer of over 20 years, I have had my fair share of rejections and let me tell you…I must be nuts out of my mind to still be continuing on this path. And you know what? I don’t care. I love what I do. I love finding the strength and hope to keep trucking at it. Finding in yourself what sets you apart from other people, other artists. Expressing what little idiosyncrasies you have and embracing them.

This is meant to be for the “every artist”.  I am sure you have heard of the term “everyman”. Well I started penning Keep Calm and Create On because I found myself dealing with issues that every day artist go through on a daily basis: the duality of working a 9 to 5 job only to get off your shift and rehearse/perform until the midnight hour. It was all too familiar! Originally starting as a blog, I began receiving messages and emails from people who were followers of my journey and work.

Those blogs became the talking points for a book I am officially publishing and touring in 2017! I hope that you find the strength, magnificence, and love within yourself to be the true artist that you are destined to be.

Purpose.
Have you ever looked at the items in your kitchen or just throughout your home and realized that particular item only has one general purpose? I mean even going through your local WalMart or Target, how many items can you identify that ONLY have one purpose but you GOTTA have it? Like an “egg yolk separator” for example. I mean “really seriously…” Continue reading

Waiting.

Waiting.

KeepCalm6The waiting game. Is it just me or does it feel like the older we get, the more we wait on things? I mean think about when you were a kid, you asked and basically…in the blink of an eye…got what you wanted. Like *finger snap* but the truth is… that is the most jacked up sense of reality that one could ever perceive. (laughs) But I am serious.

Not only do you wait in traffic constantly throughout the day or waiting on an appointment or whatever… with any artist we are always waiting, yearning for that next opportunity to fall into our laps. The waiting game for an actor is like watching paint dry. Not only are you waiting for your next audition opportunity but even AFTER you get the audition, you have to wait on casting. And that’s when all the questions pop into your head: Continue reading
